Late Spring on the North Coast

I began the garden before the blog.

By way of catching you up...

I live in a little farm house about 10 miles from the Pacific in Northern California. This season marks my first attempt at gardening. I am focused on an organic approach, growing produce suited for my micro climate and dietary needs. My primary fertilizer, pesticide, and mulch will be homemade compost and derived worm tea. This year will be largely, experimental. I have little current experience gardening. During my formative years my folks always kept a vegetable garden. My most significant memories of this garden include hours spent cross-legged in the strawberry patch, the lower half of my face stained with the red sweetness.

I wanted to feel this again.

So the current garden includes:

Strawberries, 6 strains of tomatoes, 4 Zucs, summer and winter squashes, sugar beets, Jalapenos, Artichokes, Kale, Broccoli, Cauliflower, and Beets (thanks Kathy!).

Recently planted though not yet sprouted seeds include:

Carrots, Cilantro, thyme, mache, butter lettuce, spinach, arugula, romaine, sweet corn, beets, royal beans, and endive.

This morning I awoke before dawn to apply a folliar feed of compost tea to everyone. The results were impressive. The Cascade Hops at the garden's entrance grew three inches!

Updates, future plantings and pictures to follow. Watch me fumble....
